Time schedule of enrolment, interventions and assessments. Eligible patients will be screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. These patients will then sign an informed consent form and undergo a medical examination. Eligible insomniacs will be randomly assigned to either the true or sham acupuncture groups and complete clinical and MRI assessments before treatment. After a 4-week treatment period, these patients will undergo clinical and MRI assessments again. In addition, adverse events will be recorded in the CRFs at any time during treatment.
