Table 1 Contraindication for awake prone position

• Suspected increased intracranial pressure (e.g., severe brain injury)

• Hemoptysis

• Vomiting

• Recent abdominal wound (less than 15 days)

• Tracheal surgery or sternotomy during the previous 15 days

• Facial trauma or facial surgery during the previous 15 days

• Deep venous thrombosis treated for less than 2 days

• Cardiac pacemaker inserted in the last 2 days

• Unstable spine, femur, or pelvic fractures

• Hemodynamic instability (defined by a systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg, mean blood pressure below 65 mmHg, or requirement for vasopressor)

• Pregnant women

• Presence of chest tube
