Table 1 Inclusion criteria

From: Efficacy and safety assessment of different dosage of benznidazol for the treatment of Chagas disease in chronic phase in adults (MULTIBENZ study): study protocol for a multicenter randomized Phase II superiority clinical trial

Inclusion criteria (patients should meet all criteria)

• Adults ≥ 18 years old

• Have been diagnosed with Chagas disease by two positive serological tests using different antigens

• Have detectable Trypanosoma cruzi DNA in peripheral blood through a qualitative interpretation of the polymerase chain reaction technique

• Written informed consent provided

• Weight ≥ 50 kg and ≤ 80 kg

• Ability to comply with all tests and specified protocol visits and have a permanent address

• Patients must be residents of areas free of vector transmission (Triatoma infestans), defined by local health programs or by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization definition.

• Women of childbearing age should have a urine or serum negative pregnancy test at the moment of the baseline visit. Breastfeeding should not be allowed, and a barrier method of contraception should be used during the treatment phase.
