Table 1 Eligibility criteria for the PREvention of DIabetes in KIDs (PREDIKID) study

From: Prevention of diabetes in overweight/obese children through a family based intervention program including supervised exercise (PREDIKID project): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Inclusion criteria

 Aged 8–12 years

 Criteria for the classification of risk of T2D [1]a

1. Obesity status according to the World Obesity Federation [24] 2. Overweight and the presence of at least one of the following metabolic abnormalities: 2.1. Family history of T2D in first- or second-degree relative; Signs of insulin resistance or conditions associated with insulin resistance (acanthosis nigricans, HOMA > 2.5, glucose between 100 and 125 mg/dL; Hypertension (systolic blood pressure ≥ 130 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 85 mmHg); Dyslipidemia (HDL < 40 mg/dL, TG > 150 mg/dL); 2.2. Ethnic minority with higher risk

 To have at least one parent or caregiver willing to participate in the program sessions

Exclusion criteria

 Not available for assessment and intervention sessions

 Medical conditions or medications that would affect study results or limit physical exercise
