Site assessor

An assessor based at a local site or hospital, who may or may not be involved in the patient’s care

Central assessor

An assessor who is based centrally, not at any local site or hospital, and is not involved in the patient’s care

Adjudication

The process of classifying the outcome as an event or a non-event

Misclassification

Incorrectly classifying the outcome

False-positive

Incorrectly classifying the outcome as an event when the true outcome is a non-event (the false-positive rate is denoted φ)

False-negative

Incorrectly classifying the outcome as a non-event when the true outcome is an event (the false-negative rate is denoted θ)
